Acrylic Vase Progress 2
On Friday morning I went into the shop in order to work a new technique for my vase. I used the heat bender that is the long metal rod. I took a fresh piece of 1/8" acrylic and bent two angles into the 12"x 24" piece. These two edges form the bottom shape of my vase. I continued to use this machine in attempts to bend the sides in to create a well for the water to stay in the vase. I could not evenly heat the essential pieces to melt so on Monday I plan I using the vacuum form again. The intense heat will hopefully help me create the ideal shape for my vase.
Acrylic Vase Progress
In class on Wednesday I worked with the vacuum form and acrylic to get some shapes that I might want for the vase. For two different times I melted the acrylic with the heat from the machine and proceeded to bend it around a piece of wood. The acrylic was kind of hard to bend because it did not easily hold it's shape. Also it was very hot and stayed hot for a long time.
Carolyn's Stained Glass Final
Here are pictures of my final model of my stained glass candle holder. To try to make nicer corners than my last attempt I tried making the corners overlap instead of touching tip to tip. This method made it easier to solder together but made the cuts have to be more exact so they fit together. Overall I think this was the more successful and more appropriate way for a beginner like myself to put the pieces together. The model is basically done but some of the solder could still get smooth. I don’t know if it is possible to go back this late and smooth any of it out but I plan on trying to in class on Monday.
Jordan_Cork_Final_Progress
Today, I applied the cork to the bike seat. I began by gluing the foam piece of the original seat to the new frame using super 77. Next, I cut several 1/4 in. x 11in. strips of cork with an xacto knife, T-Square, cutting matte, and the metal side of my plastic triangle. I then applied two layers of the cork strips- one vertical and one horizontally oriented.

Concrete progress
Ok so things are going a little slower than planned. It took a few tries to get the CAD file down, and then I submitted the wrong measurements for the last 2 pieces of blue foam, so they did not line up properly when I assembled the mold. Because of this, I spent a day sure-forming the mold so everything could line up. Today I took the mold over to the concrete shop in Jersey, and poured the concrete. I used a very dry mix to make it easier to fill in the areas with my hands. now the concrete just has to cure, then I can go do any gap filling and grinding I need to do before I seal it.
Eliot Coven Final Project Final Post
This is my final project. Between last class and now all I had to do was attach the hinges with rivets. I needed to buy new hinges that would fit. I buffed the project earlier but its very interesting how copper ages. Over the last week it has become much darker and more oxidized. I like this aged look more then the shiny buff look so I am going to keep it like this. The acrylic compartments fit perfect. It's all done.
Fiberglass Final progress
So over the past two days i have spent majority of my time letting the epoxy cure which is kinda slowing me down but im still moving. After i layed the epoxy on the fleece and let that cure(thursday) i layed 9 layers of glass onto that(friday). This gave it a very hard serface and i believe it is strong enough to resist the vibrations and be able to hold the speakers inplace. Saturday i started on the finishing steps. I put a layer of epoxy down so that i can sand out the imperfections and get a smooth finish. Today im going back over it and finding any other spots that need the extra layer of epoxy. i plan to do that soon so i can get more work done on it tonight after it cures. Then its just sanding and filling. I think im going to go with a gloss black for the final color.
