Experiment 3

For my third and final experiment I worked with joining the wood. I did three different kind of joints. One being the T joint. This joint is very strong because the piece on top is supported by the long piece underneath. The second joint I did was small version of a miter joint. This joint was the strongest it involves slanted pieces put together. I felt like this joint is very strong and works well. My third and final joint which was the weakest was the pocket hole joint. I found it hard to make but the version that I made was not to strong. It involves slanted pieces as well but it looks like a hinge when complete. If done successfully it will probably be very strong but my version was not.

Experiment 2

So for my second experiment I worked on sanding the plywood. The first cut out of plywood I sanded through two layers and then three layers of wood. I wanted to see how the finish on these layers was compared to the top. I found that they were a little more rough compared to the top but with a light sanding it became as smooth as the top. The picture at the top also shows how I sanded through a knot. I thought the knot might go through more then one layer but after sanding it down I realized it only went through one and the layer under neath the knot was very smooth.

Experiment 1

My first experiment for working with the plywood was making curved cuts. I have never used wood before so I wanted to see how the band saw would cut curves. I found out afterward that sanding is necessary if you want to make the cuts look clean. The band saw allows you to make the cuts but they are sloppy. But you can successfully start to make curves.
