Plaster of Paris Progress

So far I have completed the positive mold, made the lung vessels, and pulled the negative mold. Since the shop only carried 20 mill and 100 mill styrene, over the weekend I tried to pull a mold using 20 mill. That didnt work out so today I was successful using eighth inch clear acrylic. Now I just have to pour the plaster and embed the vessel into the plaster. Once it dries I will remove it from the mold, sand it a bit if necessary, then prime and paint it to be completed. On to the pics...

Plaster of Paris Experiments

Here are some photos of the experiments I conducted using plaster of paris. First up are the series of embedding different materials into a mold of plaster.

The pieces which were bent first were much sturdier than the ones which were just sitting in the plaster. The next series was finishing the plaster using primer, paint, and sanding. Here they are.

to start with my final i glued and clamped together 2pieces of yellow foam and a piece of wood for the faceplate on the lathe. after that was cuered i then whent to the lathe to get started on my shape i rounded the 2 square pieces of yellow foam and started parting the cylinder where the dimensions changed. and then continued to round out the shape to the top form, when that was finished i couated the piece with spot puty and sanded it down to a smooth finish in order to get a better casting, after the sanding a final coat of paint for an even smoother finish. when the piece was ready for the molding i poured the omo smooth on into a water bottel container and then let the piece set in there so it could be cast. was the omo was dry i cut out the waster bottel and the mold in half in order to get the piece out of the mold. one that was done i poured the mixture of morder and cement component to make the final mold. i tryed 2 diffrent ones one with a rod in the center of it and one without, but the one with the rod moved slightly of center so i am going to try and make another one to see what works better
